[old.fs] Make Life Easier

[OLD POST] Date: 12.10.2008 | Navigate to the original post here.

I eat in a popular fast food chain resto almost every school day–it’s that one featuring a bee that seems to have enjoyed swimming in catsup and decided to setup a resto. Of course, today’s a school day, and yes, i did eat there a while about 45 minutes ago–yeah, i have my lunch late(2pm or 2:30); poor, hungry me.

Lately, it seems this branch in the not-so-big mall in a not-so-far-from-my-school location opened its roster and hired new people. As always, new employees are tested and are given most of the work.
A while ago, I had the following observations:
[1]  newbie waiters were tasked to clear the tables everytime the a costumer leaves
[2]  the oldies expected them to accomplish the task in no more than 30 seconds
[3]  newbie had the following algorithm: gather the utensils and whatnot on the table, put them on the tray. they then put the tray on one of the chairs, spray the table with something mystical(it’s liquid, i know not what it is) and grab one cloth on their utility belts(they’ve got their rations in there) and wipe the table. They reach for a magic cloth from their Ubelts again, and wipes the table a second time–i suppose it’s for drying. They grab the tray and put them on the trash counter.
[4] Theirs was a work with speed being their focus, neglecting the quality(the cleanliness of the table after their task).
[5] the oldies do their jobs but in a speed so much slower than that of the newbies’. i guess they love it when there are newbies: supervisors’ eyes are not on them but on the newbies. thus giving them a chance to relax.
One thing I’ve been used to is that I fix up the mess I make after eating in these kinds of resto(s). yeah, i really fix up the utensils, plates and other consumables, stack ‘em up in an organized way. Why? Primarily coz i want people to see me as someone organized. (i kinda like it that way). And another reason came up, and this did popped into mind after realizing the strenous work of the employees in these restos. Yup, I wanna make life easier for them. A good eye opener is putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and think of the consequences of your possible actions.

Next time you eat in one of these restos, why not get your receipt and write on something encouraging on it. things like, “bee happy.”
